Privacy

filmkorner keeps a film in sync between friends and gives them a room to chat and talk. We keep only what that needs, delete rooms a day after they go quiet, and never sell data or show ads. There are no analytics or tracking cookies.

• Your display name, the one you type in, shown to people in your room.
• Chat messages and reactions you send in a room, with the point in the film they were sent at.
• What the room is watching: the title's name and id on the streaming service, whether it's playing, and how far in.
• A sign-in. Guests get an anonymous one with no personal details. If you save an account we keep your email address, and if you use Google we receive your email, name and profile picture from Google.
• Your Pro subscription's status, if you have one. Payment is handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card.
• Anonymous voice statistics: whether a call connected directly or through a relay, and how long it took. These contain nothing about you or your room.

Calls go directly between the people in a room, encrypted, and are never recorded. Like any direct call, the people you talk to can see your IP address. When a direct connection isn't possible, the call passes through a relay server, which forwards the encrypted audio without being able to listen to it.

The filmkorner companion is a Chrome extension that keeps your streaming tab in step with your room. On Netflix and YouTube pages it reads only the player: whether it's playing, the position, and the title's name and id. It presses play, pause and seek when your room does, and shows the room's chat over the film.

It does not read your browsing history, other websites, or anything else on those pages, and it never sees your streaming account or password. It stores your current room session (room code, your display name and a sign-in token) in the extension's own storage, and talks only to filmkorner and our database.

• Rooms, with their chat, reactions and what they were watching, are deleted 24 hours after the last activity. A Pro room given a permanent link is kept while its owner has Pro.
• Accounts and subscription records are kept until they're deleted.
• Your name and preferences in the browser stay on your device until you clear them.

We use a few services to run filmkorner, only for that purpose:

• Supabase hosts our database, sign-in and the live connection rooms run on.
• Vercel serves the website.
• Stripe handles Pro payments.
• Google, if you choose to sign in with it.
• A voice relay provider, for calls that can't connect directly.

We don't sell or share your data with anyone else.

You can use filmkorner as a guest without giving us any personal details. Removing the companion from Chrome deletes everything it stored.

filmkorner isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
